StumbleUpon Reaches 25M Registered Users, Plans For Global Expansion And API

stumbleupon logoCEO Garrett Camp tells me that content discovery service StumbleUpon hit 25 million registered users earlier this week, and that those users are pretty damn active ? the service is now seeing 1.2 billion Stumbles a month. For someone like me, who sees the impressive traffic that StumbleUpon can drive to an article, the growth isn't a big surprise, but it's worth remembering that StumbleUpon had some, uh, stumbles of its own, having been acquired by eBay and then spun out again as a separate company in April 2009. At the time, Camp says the site had about 5.5 million registered users, so that's almost 5x growth in three years.

Ask AC: Taking screenshots on the Transformer Prime and HTC Vivid

Transformer Prime

Kinghthawk321 asks in the Android forums

OK, folks, one thing I really don't know how to do is snagging a screen shot, either on my Transformer Prime or my Vivid. I appreciate all help in bringing me up to speed on these techniques. Thank you, very much.

You're welcome, and we're glad you asked! Android is an open platform, which means manufacturers can implement things however they like -- including the ability to capture the screen. Of course, that means they all do it differently. Both the Transformer Prime and the HTC Vivid have the utility built in, and it's fairly easy.

On the Prime, just press and hold the multitasking button. After about a second and a half it will grab the screen and save it to the device internal storage. If yours isn't doing it, make sure this is turned on in the settings. Open the settings and choose ASUS customized setting and it is the second item in the list/

On the HTC Vivid, you press and hold the power button then tap the Home soft key. A screen capture will be saved to the device. This is pretty standard across all newer HTC phones.

Of course, there is the old fashioned way of using the Android SDK for screen capture. After installing the SDK, the USB driver for the device (if you're using Windows) and the Java JDK you can use the bundled ddms tool to capture the display. Thank goodness for the easy way, right?

Have a question you need answered? (Preferably about Android, but we're flexible.) Hit up our Contact Page to get in touch!

'Five-Year Engagement' More 'Real' Than Most Rom-Coms

'It's a very real exploration of how a couple, the power dynamic changes after five years,' Jason Segel tells MTV News.

Romantic comedies all seem to follow the same cinematic blueprint: Boy meets girl. Boy and girl fall in love. An obstacle tears them apart. The two overcome all and get together right before the end credits roll.

While movies of this genre are great for a first date, the story can usually be predicted before entering the theater (and perhaps sometimes by just reading the film's title). With Jason Segel and 's latest movie, The Five-Year Engagement, the two stress that the story avoids the traditional, sappy rom-com formula and presents a fresh look at the genre.

"This starts with the engagement," Segel told MTV News. "I think it's a very real exploration of how a couple, the power dynamic changes after five years."

Segel is certainly one for comedic performances. But with a recent role in "Jeff Who Lives at Home" under his belt, the multitalented actor proves he can deliver an honest, reflective performance as well. Blunt ("Salmon Fishing in the Yemen" and "The Adjustment Bureau") is no stranger to dramatic roles either. "It's got a little bit of everything, that's what I love about it," Segel said. "It's hilarious, and there are some broad [comedic] moments and there are very sad, solemn moments."

Relationships are far from perfect, which is certainly not the case in most Hollywood films. But "The Five-Year Engagement" promises an organic and truthful portrayal of a young couple.

"What's nice about this is it does feel like a very, very real relationship," Blunt said. "They're desperately struggling to be together and make it perfect. And they are incredibly loving of each other, but yet they're struggling. Life gets in the way and the dynamics change."

It will be refreshing to see Segel and Blunt portray such a natural and troubled relationship onscreen. While the film is certain to give the audience laughs, it also seems like the story will hit home for lots of couples sitting in the audience.

"It's one of the things I'm most proud of in my entire career," Segel said.

Check out everything we've got on "The Five-Year Engagement."

Having already debuted in the UK, Roku is officially undertaking the second stage of its international attack plan by taking on a new region of North America: Canada. Given the box's roots and popularity as a Netflix streamer it's no surprise that the international rollouts just happen to be in English-speaking countries where the service is available, but there's more to be had, since Roku says it's launching with more than 100 channels north of the border. Hardware-wise, Roku is kicking things off with two of its higher-end players in the Roku 2 XS and Roku 2 XD. Gillmor Gang: Moe, Larry, and Curly

Gillmor Gang test patternThe Gillmor Gang ? Robert Scoble, Dan Farber, Kevin Marks, and Steve Gillmor ? have a lot to work with this week: Instagram, a Google+ redesign, and Ann Romney joining Twitter. But if Larry is Larry, who are Moe and Curly? @dbfarber makes a good case for Twitter owning the realtime media; if you make it on Twitter, you can make it anywhere. We don't know Moe's business model, but who cares. That leaves Zuckerberg as Curly, the intellectual whose empire keeps growing no matter what mistakes he seems to make. In fact, those mistakes usually turn out to be ephemeral. Lose trust with overwhelming growth, buy the most phatic startup and its 30 million users. Facebook is betting only a few will bolt, and where are they gonna go anyway? The Three Stooges are beating each other up, but what they're really doing is keeping Microsoft boxed out of the social party. Nyuk nyuck nyuck.

This Broad Sword Umbrella Is Your Battle-The-Rain-And-Win Deal of the Day [Dealzmodo]

The biggest problem about summer is never knowing what to expect weather-wise. One day it's beating down sunshine on your brow, the next you're being dumped on by buckets of rain. The worst is the sun-rain days; when the sun is peaking around the edge of the clouds and smiling on as you get a soaker. And no one wants to be the guy carrying around an umbrella on a sunny day. Protect yourself with the Broadsword Umbrella. It's all cool ass sword that you can unquestioningly carrying around on your day-to-day travels. Then when the rain hits. Bam! You've got a 41-inch diameter rain warrior right over your head as you cut a dry path through the crowd. More »
